Asset Management (also known as portfolio management) describes the supervision and administration of financial assets. Asset management describes the management of assets through active planning, purchase and sale of asset classes and operational controlling.

This is often carried out as a service, which includes the management of an asset portfolio of a private client or an institution. At the beginning, the asset manager discusses objectives, investment experience, risk appetite and tolerance and uses this information to create an investor profile. Based on the defined framework, the asset manager makes investment decisions at his own discretion in the interests of the client.
